I Guess I Never Really Understood the Point of the Book "A Secret Garden"
This Thursday morning I am leaving the city mega-early with a bunch of crazy dorks to head to Baltimore, Maryland, to go to Otakon, the second-largest anime con held in the U.S.
So naturally, since I'm out of town this weekend, several important things are happening that normally I'd go to great lengths not to miss.
Sam is watching Tampopo, one of my favorite movies, and making ramen - one of my favorite foods. The ramen will either be homemade or the fancy kind you get from Japanese grocers. Somehow I missed it the last time she made ramen, too.
Jay is leaving town for med school, and I might have to miss his going-away dinner! Auuug! I don't want to miss that.
To top everything off, that film I worked on after I graduated, called Shelter, is making its New York City debut on Friday at the Latino film festival. I have never seen this movie, and my name is in the credits! I was the boom operator. I guess the film's been doing well since it won the IFP Market Award, which I heard about. It played at the Sundance film festival, it won some awards at other festivals, and it will play at Cannes and in the Berlin film festival, which is just about as good as any low-budget feature can hope for.

Bona Fide
Well after a year of temping, I finally have a start date for a real job here at Curious. On August 16th, I will begin working as a full time Production Assistant on a new TV show, one that will eventually air on the Disney Channel. The pay is just OK, and there are no benefits for the first year. But it IS a "real" job, in my "field". I will be making nearly three times the meager stipend I live on now.
It will be weird to work five days a week again.

Lots of stuff I think is awesome that I'm sure you don't care about, also Gunbuster
I've been working on a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles video game record! It's great, except the boring parts! More importantly, perhaps, I'm working with the voice actors who do Joey and Pegasus on YuGiOh! See, I told you you wouldn't care. Maybe I'll post more on this later.
A while back Gainax released some character designs for the new Gunbuster sequel. I really loved the original, and one glance of the new website had me appalled at the new character designs. But then I looked at the website for the old Gunbuster - and I realized those character designs are also extremely silly (mainly in the costume department), but in an '80's way. Here are some pop-up graphics so you can compare for yourself:

You'll notice the new characters have pantaloons instead of just no pants. I can't tell if that's better or worse.

Because I know you all want to see more anime screencaps
I've created an entire page devoted to Samurai Champloo screencaps. So far it's just captures from the first and fourth episode. Here's a sample:

Also there's a quiz you all need to take:
Which Miyazaki Heroine Are You? Brought to you by bobmink.com
I'm Shizuku because I live in a fantasy world, no doubt.
And because I know you all care, did you know that there is, in fact, MAH-JONG ANIME?! Yessss! Legendary Gambler Tetsuya is available for download by following these links. Unfortunately, only episodes one and two are up. But here are some screencaps:

Consequently, I've decided not to work for Turltles, and go for the other, longer term things instead, and nobody got mad or anything! But I ammm going to work on a record for a Turtles video game next week, so I will get to see all the voice actors. Except the one or two who are in L.A.
