Date-Based Archive Three words: Ninja Theme Restaurant

Oneangryrabbit has astutely pointed out that there is, in fact, a Ninja-themed restaurant in New York City. Of course, I must go there - unfortunately it is prohibitively expensive ($60-$80!). It turns out that it is actually a branch of a Japanese theme restaurant by the same name. Theme restaurants are very popular in Japan right now - like, say, horror themed restaurants and whatnot, but that's not important right now. The important part is that the Japanese counterpart does weddings. Here's a collection of links on the topic:

    An amusing review, with pictures.
The same review, but on livejournal.
The Japanese homepage of the restraurant - click the first red button for a flash presentation in English.
    The Japanese page about weddings.
Another review (possibly by a snooty trust fund kid).
A couple of fake reviews, riffing on the Real Ultimate Power style.
A job opening for waitstaff ninjas.

Date-Based Archive I have a cold, just like everyone else on Livejournal

Even I have to admit that this is pretty cool.

Some friends of mine will be terrifically amused by this art exhibit which incorporates My Little Ponies and is also sponsored by Mattel. Altering My Little Ponies has been a thing for a couple years now. I saw some really good ones at the artshow at Anime Expo that were based on Naruto characters. There was a Kakashi pony, a Gaara pony, a Naruto pony, and maybe a Rock Lee.

I can't find any pictures of it online now, though.

I have noticed that one theme of other people blogging is that people always blog about their illnesses. If you have a long friends list on livejournal, you can track illnesses as they spread across the country, since people often post about their symptoms.

I read about several friends getting sick recently, and then N. got a small cold, and now I have a small cold. It's really annoying and my throat hurts a lot. I haven't had a cold in a zillion months, or at least not since March or so. I hope I get better by Saturday, as I have a lot planned.

Crap!! I just remembered I was going to record my dad talking for the podcast, and I totally forgot. My parents were in town for Maggie's wedding last weekend. I have some pictures up here and here. Flickr isn't cooperating with me right now, so I'll upload some of the photos to the group later.

Maggie's wedding was "awesome", but not because of anything Maggie did or didn't do (although she forgot to throw the bouquet), but rather, because in a moment of inspiration another bridesmaid and I had a samurai duel using the bridesmaid bouquets. Even though I totally lost (Matt yelled something about shaming our family name), it was probably the most fun I've had at a wedding, possibly ever. I also broke the strap on my dress in the first round. No one there had even seen Utena, but it was kinda like that.

Here's the best picture so far from the wedding:

Date-Based Archive Now It's Out In Paperback So No More Excuses

Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell is now out in paperback - as of September fucking 5th, so I HAVE SPENT THE LAST THREE WEEKS LUGGING AROUND EXTRA WEIGHT FOR NOTHING!!! FOR NOTHING!!!!!

For those of you not in-the-know, Jonathan Strange is a freaking excellent book, the only trouble being that it is massively long, at 785 pages, and until a couple weeks ago, it was only available in hardcover. Because I read so slowly, it basically took me all summer to read this book. I could not take such a prohibitively large and heavy book on my various mini-vacations over the summer. I had to pack too lightly on roadtrips and going to conventions, so I took breaks from Strange & Norrell to read other books (Freakonomics, Harry Potter Six) and comics.

That's not to say I didn't enjoy Strange & Norrell immensely - and I advise all of you to read it as well. It's a terrific book. It's highly applicable to our D&D game at times, it's written in an enjoyable style. The prose is neither to easy nor to difficult and the book is largely not boring, save for the vacationing in Italy bit, and also some longish bits at the very start. The footnotes are very lengthy.

Also I wasn't aware of the existence of pork pies before this book, but now I am keen to try one. I found a good webpage or two about them last night, but can I find it again now? Oh hells no.

I finally got the pictures from the Michigan roadtrip online, take a look:

Date-Based Archive Things and Other Things

This weekend I got to meet with ngmaster, who I interviewed for my podcast, and I also met djranmas, with whom we ate dinner. The best line of the evening, perhaps, was that "Sailormoon says hi."

negativeq had a birthday party on Saturday at the home of bigscary but that's not the point here, the point is that Q has reposted a Savage Love letter here, where you can also read my witty response.

esampsonite is coming to town this weekend, and it is the birthday Euralis, and N. and I are being forced to karaoke at Karaoke17.

godzillamom will be in town next weekend for Maggie's wedding. I still have not bought shoes.

Isn't that cute? Everyone has a webpage nowadays! Even my mom, and even weddings! It looks like nevergettingmarried.com is taken, but if/when I ever get married, nevergettingmarried.info or .org will certainly be my wedding information site of choice!
