Christmas Fun
Dad has already gotten in a few good lines, threatening N. with such killer insults as "You Polish Jew-head!" and "Do you want to read that book or wear it?"
Here is a 30-second-Bunnies version of A Christmas Story.
Thanks to Maggie for getting the best gift I've gotten for Christmas so far, the Avenging Unicorn Playset. Best Secret Santa Gift EVER. Check out the rest of Archie McFee's, it's awesome.

Twas the Strike Before Christmas
by Matt Levy
Twas the strike before Christmas, and all through the city
New Yorker's everywhere seethed with self-pity.
The MTA and the Union, tucked in snug at the Hyatt
While 7 million commuters readied to riot.
Kalikow and Toussaint clashed over wages
Over long negotiations and through several stages.
The Authority said finding more money's hard;
We blew $50 million on Holiday fare cards!
TWU yelled "benefits!" MTA shrieked "budget!"
And at midnight on Monday, they both cried out "Fudge it!"
The subways shut down, the buses were parked
The engines cut off, and the stations went dark
And all through the city, from Rockaway to the Bronx
New Yorkers listened to the shouts and the honks
Of cars caught in gridlock and road-rage galore
And piece-mealing carpools so as to reach four.
Then over at the Hyatt, interrupting the fights
Was a whoosh of the wind, and out went the lights,
When a monstrous vision that both awed and feared,
Some Victorian figure, an apparition appeared.
But it was no demon, no beast and no hellion
It was none other than the ghost of old George C. McClellan!
He cried: "I am the great mayor, from New York 'Ought Four
The year that this subway first opened its doors
"And I drove that first train from City Hall headed north
I didn't stop. I couldn't stop! Such was the force
Of this marvelous creation, our underground railway delight
So for the sake of New York, will you stop this damn fight?!
You must quit these squabbles and come to a deal
So the buses and trains can return with true zeal!
On A train! On B train! On N train and Q!
On 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 train, too!"
With a whoosh and a gurgle and a clang and a sigh
The old Mayor went up to City Hall in the sky,
Which freed up the meeting, and the fate of our home
When both sides agreed and threw us a bone
So the strike ended there with an uneasy pact
But no one believed either side would clean up its act
And when the Post stopped shouting and you listened real close
You could hear the faint words of our benevolent ghost
"To all those stuck in taxis and on bikes
A Transit Strike to all, and you can all take a hike!"

This Modem Sucks
I am missing the strike in NYC by cleverly being in Michigan until basically New Years. WTF?! My 'W' key is sticking!! Auuuuggg!
N. and I finished watching "Berserk" - I'd read a lot on ANN how a lot of fans don't like the ending and keep wondering if it keeps going or if they're ever making more of it etc., so I was waiting for the worst ending possible - like some sort of Kare Kano ending or everyone clapping for Guts while he sits in a folding chair, but instad the ending was very final. It didn't leave open-ended questions. It was kinda uncomfortable to watch with my mom, due to the violence and demons and stuff like that, stuff that wasn't so ridiculous on the 5th volume of the DVD. I won't say spoilers but will say it is very reminiscant of the Eva movie - but not too terribly much so.
It's like 20-25 degrees here. There's a lot of snow on the ground. I think I'm done Xmas shopping now.
I'm glad not to have to walk to work, or heck, work at all this week. But on the other hand, I kind of miss that I'm missing the strike. The city is at it's best and most memorable during crisis like this, or like the blackout - events that transform the entire city and change everyone's daily life.
That said, the 1980 strike lasted for what, 10 days? Screw that!

Howl's DVD Extras

My friends and some coworkers and I went to the NYC premiere of Howl's Moving Castle over the summer. There were some cameramen there shooting footage of the line, and it turns out that they were shooting extras for the Japanese release of the Howl's DVD, which I bought. The last picture is of John Culhane, who teaches History of Animation at NYU and some other schools in the city. He's in the DVD Extras actually saying something about the film, even if he only gets in a partial sentence.

OMG Wikipedia
OMG Jackson has a wikipedia entry. So does I-94 and heck, Old US-12. So does Hanover!
In Jackson, "The median income for a household in the city is $31,294", and in Hanover, "The racial makeup of the village is 98.82% White..."

Totally Airwolf
So if I started getting sick on November 30th, and the worst of it was December 3rd, I am now completely better, as of December 12th. That's like, around a 10 day cold. That f'ing sucked.
But this f'ing rules: According to this podcast you should now say "Airwolf" instead of "hardcore". Few people probably remember the short-live Knight Rider spin-off Airwolf, outside of this guy but thanks to the Random Signal Podcast you can now Join the Airwolf Army just by throwing the airwolf handsign.
That's totally f'ing airwolf, man!
Also it turns out that the christmas special that haunted me as a kid that no one else remembers was called "The Christmas Toy" and it came out in 1986. It was/is incredibly similar to Toy Story.
